짧은 시간에 한 편의 단편 다큐멘터리를 만드는 것은 쉽지 않은 작업입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지난 해 보다 훨씬 더 성장한 작품들을 만날 기회를 주신 감독님들께 감사 드립니다.

출품작 중 <XXX>는 모든 심사위원들이 만장 일치로 뽑은 작품입니다. 인터뷰라는 다소 진부한 형식으로 시작한 이 작품은 그러나 영화가 진행되면서 그 아쉬움을 완전히 전복 시켜버렸습니다. 특히 아주 가까우면서도 솔직한 성적담론을 펼치기엔 어색한 엄마와 딸이라는 관계가 점차 소통을 통해 사적이며 비밀스러운 이야기를 나눌 수 있도록 이끌어 낸 감독의 진정성이 돋보였습니다. 그리고 <경마이발관>은 영화적 공간과 시간의 해석이 탁월하게 두드러진 작품으로 특히 공간 속에서 인물이 만들어 내는 시간의 흔적들을 포착해내는 관찰력이 뛰어났다는 것이 심사위원들의 평이었습니다. 끝으로 오랜 시간 심사위원들의 열띤 토론을 이끌어 낸 두 작품 <영도다리>와 <우암동>에도 아쉬움과 위로의 말을 전합니다. 분명한 것은 두 작품 감독 모두 이 작품을 계기로 앞으로 더욱 좋은 작품을 만들 것이라는 기대와 확신을 갖게 했다는 것입니다. 수상하지 못한 나머지 작품들의 감독님들도 정말 수고하셨습니다.

It is not easy to make a documentary in a short amount of time, so we would like to thank the directors who gave the jury the opportunity to see films that were much more mature than last year. The jury was unanimous in its decision to select XXX as the Grand Prix winner. This film began in a rather banal form, which was completely converted as the film progressed. The director’s authenticity was outstanding in the way the mother and daughter, a relationship that usually warrants awkwardness in carrying on a sexual discourse, were gradually made to open up and communicate about very personal and secretive stories.

Kyoung-ma Barbershop was a film that did an excellent job of interpreting cinematic space and time and was outstanding in its observation of capturing the traces of time that characters created within a certain space. Youngdo and Uam-dong gave us cause for a lengthy, heated debate but we regret to say they were not chosen as the winner. We are confident that these two directors will undoubtedly go on to make even greater films and we also applaud the other directors whose films did not win an award.
