A minor character from a collection of marionettes takes viewers through a small world theatre where they

come across various types, including the seducer, the demagogue and the obedient masses. Ambitious

puppet animation with a didactic purpose. (Oberhausen 2012)

Curtain Call  Kush

Director : Shubhashish BHUTIANI

Inspired by the true story of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination by Sikhs in 1984. A

teacher and students are on a bus on their way home from a field trip. The teacher struggles to make sure

that Kush, the only Sikh child on the bus, gets home safely. The film shows how political tension impacts

people and almost seems to say maybe empathy can overcome it. The underlying tension running through

the film and the contrasting innocence of the kids is impressive. Winner of the Orizzonti Award at the 2013

Venice Film Festival

Curtain Call  The Mass of Men

Director : Gabriel GAUCHET

A nervous man in his mid fifties is heading somewhere. Richard, unemployed, arrives 3 minutes late for

his appointment at a job center. The advisor says he will be penalized for being late, but there is nothing

Richard can do about it. A shocking scene is placed at the beginning of the film to arouse the audience’s

curiosity and tells the story effectively within a confined space. An example of how indifference to others

and selfish desires in an urgent situation can be expressed. Winner of the Grand Prix at the Tampere

Short Film Festival

Rudolf and Eva, a couple leading a listless, middle-aged life, are shaken up by a series of life-changing

events which enable them to reaffirm their love for each other. This is Director Patrik EKLUND’s 2009 film,

following Situation Frank(2007) and Instead of Abrakadabra(2008) which were acclaimed by critics.

Though the events that occur are plausible, the film is filled with elements that bring out gentle smiles from

the audience without being intense at all. Starting with the Critics’ Week at Cannes in 2007, this film was

also introduced at various international film festivals

Prequel of Sweden  Autumn Man

Director : Jonas SELBURG AUGUSTEN

In the town of Tornedalen, two men drive around in their rundown car through the bleak backdrop of fall.

Hunger drives them to continue on an endless journey and their absurd voyage keeps the audience in

stitches.Jonas SELBURG AUGUSTEN, the director, used to be a carpenter and worked in the fashion

industry before becoming a director. Just like his unique history, the film is brusque, rough, but still brings

silly laughter and warmth to the audience in the vein of director Aki KAURISMAKI

Close up 1 : Special_Won Shiny  Bread and Milk

Director : WON Shinyun

A railway track repairman gets fired. He takes his hammer and tools to work his last shift, but his wife’s

constant calls bother him. His attempt to hurt himself so he can claim insurance money falls through

because of fallen rocks on the tracks. When he starts running down the tracks like a madman at the end

of the film, why do his wife’s biting remarks left on his voice mail seem to contain sympathy and affection

rather than a curse?

Guest Country : Spanish Panorama  7:35 in the Morning

Director : Nacho VIGALONDO

14f8f3c8bbb2740e2345b2d59e892032_1712887360_1045.jpg

One morning, a woman notices something strange at the cafe where she has breakfast every morning: all

of the other customers and the waiters are in total silence without touching their breakfast. Suddenly, a

song is heard coming from a corner. A cheerful song is being played on a peaceful morning. A shocking

confession is conveyed through the music. A good example of the compactness and concentration of a

short film. Submitted to the Academy Awards in 2005

Guest Country : Spanish Panorama  A Story for the Modlins

Director : Serigo OKSMAN

14f8f3c8bbb2740e2345b2d59e892032_1712887366_803.jpg

After appearing in Roman Polanski’s film Rosemary's Baby, Elmer Modlin leaves his hometown and takes

his family to Madrid, Spain. He then lives the remaining 30 or so years of his life isolated from the outside

world. He and his family disappear, leaving only fragments of their lives. Evidence of their existence can

be seen only in pictures, documents and videos. A strong, shocking documentary which has won the

Grand Prize in the Labo Category at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2012

Guest Country : Spanish Horror  Brutal Relax

Director : Adrian CARDONA, Rafa DENGRA, David MUNOZ

14f8f3c8bbb2740e2345b2d59e892032_1712887372_8511.jpg

Mr. Olivares recovered from his illness and now all he needs is a vacation. He just needs to take off and

relax his mind and body. Of course, he must not get worked up no matter what. Then he could have a

nice, peaceful vacation. This film demonstrates exactly what a comic horror or comic gore film can do with

blood spewing everywhere and body parts flying around, acting as comic devices completely severed

from reality, to induce laughter

Guest Country : Spanish Animation  Barcelona Kaleidolapse

Director : Antonio ROD

14f8f3c8bbb2740e2345b2d59e892032_1712887378_1261.jpg

‘Kaleidolapse’ is a new word combining Kaleidoscope and time-lapse, a visual technique that applies a

kaleidoscopic effect to different shots taken with time-lapse technique. This technique carries with it a

tremendous abundance of forms and color along with abstract images for the audience’s viewing. The

music of New York American Dollar’s “Signaling Through The Flames” plays as images of various

locations in Barcelona shot over a period of 4 years fly by like a fantasy before the eyes of the audience

for a brief 5 minutes

Guest Country : Spanish Animation  Bendito Machine IV

Director : Jossie MALIS

14f8f3c8bbb2740e2345b2d59e892032_1712887389_2051.jpg

A Chinese shadow play tells of a small, naive, and somewhat lacking species convinced into believing

that they cannot live without the machines they possess by small, greedy, bad humans who think they

have the answer to everything.

Many things that happen all over the world, on land, on the ocean, in the sky and even in space, are all

expressed in the most primitive way without any spoken lines through a man’s journey. A dystopian

imagination showing the dilapidation of the species of mankind adrift in magnanimous and mysterious

space
