General Statement

The 40 films selected for this year’s International Competition deal with various issues ranging from unemployment, illegal immigration, nature and civilization, sexual identity and violence to a crematorium in Berlin—based on profound historical consciousness and reflections on others or in extremely private ways. We’d like to extend our deepest respect and support to all the participating directors.

Grand Prix

Virago by Kerli Kirch Schneider

Based on a true story, this film achieves cinematic brilliance in terms of storytelling, cinematography, music and other effects.

Excellence Award

The Silence of the River by Francesca Canepa

This film shows us how to attain harmony with the world, and leaves us with a pleasant sense of liberation.

Jury Award

Stay Awake, Be Ready by Pham Thien An

The Jury Award is given to the film Stay Awake, Be Ready for the boldness of its minimalist narrative and for proposing a cinema that provokes its audience as opposed to just entertaining.
