The film is framed as an essay by a 15-year-old boy who has a turbulent life because he is underwhelmed by everything in the world but is neverthelessinterested in it. The film posits that the only way to create a new world is to destroy the comfortable and familiar and accept a strange and unknown self.​​

Director

  • Zara Dwinger

    Zara Dwinger (March 16th, 1990) was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her great loves are film, photography and cats. From an Anthropology degree, via video editing for online magazine 'Hard//hoofd' and various film internships, she ended up at the Netherlands Film Academy, where she studied Directing Fiction. Here she made films such as her coming-of-age short ≪Liv≫(2016) and her graduation film ≪Sirene≫(2017). The first can be viewed on platforms such as Short of the Week, and the latter was selected for more than 35 festivals and won several awards at home and abroad. Her short film ≪Yulia & Juliet≫(2018), which tells a contemporary love story based on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, premiered at Berlinale Generation 2019. In 2020 her first self-written short ≪A Holiday From Mourning≫(2020) premiered. Currently she is in development of her first featurefilm and is directing a tv-series.
